Netball is a game which is played in a quite small number of countries. Unquestionably however, in those countries where the sport is played it is extremely popular. If you want to learn more about the graceful game of netball there are netball coaching drills which you can learn to teach you the basics of the game. There are usually seven players on a netball team. While only seven team members can be on the court at once, most teams find that it’s useful to have a handful of substitutes or backup players.

 

Some would maintain that a team could compete with a minimum of five players if for any reason some were not able to attend. A game of netball is contested by teams whose members play in seven distinctive positions, all of which require their own skill set. A distinguishing factor about netball when involved in netball coaching is the fact that players are restricted to set zones of the court. The seven players play in five different parts which exist on a netball court. A fact which some take time to grasp is that players in certain positions may only contest on certain sectors of the court. Players in three positions may go onto three different sectors on the court whilst the other four are only allowed in two areas.

 

Play begins with a pass from the center of the court. The centre of the court is area number 3 on a netball court. Players in the positions of GA, WA, C, WD and GD are the only ones allowed in this part of the netball court. Part of netball coaching is ensuring players learn this early. The game commences and re starts after a goal is scored with the center passing the ball from this part to another team mate. Goals are scored by two scoring players and the fundamental idea of the game is to stop your opposition getting the ball to those players by hand to hand passing.

 

This is one of the rules which sets netball apart from the likes of basketball. While any of the five players on the basketball team are free to take a shot, only two players in netball are allowed to shoot. The two goal scoring positions in netball are the goal attack and the goal shoot. Those defending their goal must learn early on that they must not touch the shooter. Good netball coaching

will include teaching skills to legally disrupt a shot on goal. What’s more, as a non contact sport, contact with other players is not permitted during the course of the entire game. Despite this, netball at the top level is a very physical sport. Two umpires preside over a game of netball and one of the primary things they are on the lookout for is contact which will result in an automatic penalty to the opposition team. Consisting of four fifteen minute quarters, netball is not a game for the unfit or those out of condition. The pace is fast and often furious.
